Ahh, what a fun August day. Tonight Bev and I celebrated our 27th Wedding Anniversary. I spent the entire afternoon preparing a special 100 Mile Anniversary Feast for Two. The kitchen had a flurry of wonderful smells. We sat down to a semi-gourmet dinner, consisting of
HEIRLOOM TOMATO SALAD WITH BOCCONCINI, BASIL, AGED BALSAMIC VINEGAR AND OLIVE OIL, perfectly GRILLED MEDIUM-RARE SUCCULENT NATURALLY-RAISED FILET MIGNON, served with a taste of CURRIED ORGANIC HORTICULTURAL CRANBERRY BEANS, and FRESH & BUTTERY ORGANIC SWEET CORN ON THE COB.
A meal fit for Kings (and Queens)!
I was so very proud of the fact that ALL of this beautiful amazing meal was put together and arrived to us from within a 100 mile radius of where we live. The beef provided to us from our special beef rancher, Carl from Shelburne ON, who raises grass-fed and naturally raised beef. Of course the veggies all from Aylmer Fields were a delight of flavours. The cheese was produced in Toronto ON. Perhaps the only thing that may have come from a long way away would be the balsamic vinegar and spices.
The highlight of our evening actually was Bev, who was like a kid in a candy store when I suggested we take a stroll through our tiny garden with a garden-fork and dig up a few of our new potatoes. We have been watching this little patch all summer. I decided this year to plant in our tiny raised bed, 6 hills of different coloured heirloom potatoes, just for fun. Bev has never dug potatoes in his whole life, and the pleasure was all his. He was truly surprised and amazed at the fact that perfect potatoes popped right out of the ground in front of his eyes when he placed the fork in the ground. “They look like they came right out of the store, but they just came up from our garden! Amazing!” says Bev who is a potato aficionado, and loves them any way you can cook them. It was great to see how excited he was.
What a romantic and delightful way to top of the day and spend our 27th anniversary. LOL.
